After the year’s harvest of Christmas trees is cut and carted away, tree farms continue to provide open space for the aesthetic enjoyment of people and the survival of countless wildlife species.
One tree farm manager describes his crop as “revolving condos” for birds, who return year after year to build nests in the larger trees, flocking to different parts of the farm as one year’s crop is cut down to make way for another. (In this photo, New Hampshire's state bird, the purple finch, surveys his domain on a NH tree farm.) Turkeys, moose, deer, bears, and countless other species also benefit from the habitat provided and maintained by tree farmers.
Human visitors should always ask permission from the landowner before roaming a tree farm or other private property.

Watch Santa in 3D as he makes his yearly rounds this Christmas Season
Santa’s Toy Hunt and Santa Tracker in Google Earth
Google has just released a special Santa Tracker for Google Earth this year! On previous years, Google has had a Santa tracker which let you watch Santa make deliveries all over the Earth using Google Earth on Christmas Eve. This year, the new version uses 3D models created with SketchUp of Santa’s North Pole home, his sleigh, and the toys you find are in 3D as well. According to the Google Earth Santa page, you must use Google Earth 4 version 4.0.241x+ . Anyway, if you have the latest GE 4, you can download the Santa Tracker and Toy Hunt here . Then you double click on today’s date in the “Santa’s Present Hunt“ in the Places folder. Zoom in for a closer view of Santa’s home, and click on today’s clue for the location and picture of the toy. Once you get to the correct location, a 3D model of the present will appear in 3D.
Presumably, on Christmas Eve we will see Santa traverse the planet delivering presents all over the world. This is a fun way to show off the dynamic abilities of GE, and its fitting that Google do it in full 3D style since the purchase of SketchUp last year. Merry Christmas!

Santa tip for parents

here are a few of the tips Santa offers :
  1. Make holiday plans that help your child feel nurtured, emotionally safe, and comfortable. Review your plans for the holidays with your child. Spend the holidays where you and your child feel supported, nurtured, and comfortable.
  2. Allow your child to remember the person who died through a tribute. Light a candle together at dinner time to remember the person who died. Make a wreath with pictures and items that represent the things the lost loved one cared about and place it at the gravesite for the loved one. Hang an ornament on the tree that reminds the child of the loved one. Help your child offer a blessing at a holiday meal that honors the person who died. Create a picture or collage with your child, display a favorite photograph in your home, or let your child help you set a place at the dinner table to represent the loved one who died.
  3. Laughter, play and joy are good for your child. Children do not grieve continuously and they need to take breaks from grieving. Encourage your child to play, run, and do recreational activities he or she would normally do. Clowning around and laughing (which releases endorphins into the brain) are good for children.
